Detective Pete Landry thought he'd seen it all. As a burned-out cop and barstool regular in the sleepy town of Goodland, Florida, he was ready to coast into a quiet retirement. But when a notorious NYC mob boss and his trophy wife roll into town, Pete's laid-back life spirals into chaos.
Add a slippery attorney, a sultry herpetologist, and three bumbling mobsters to the mix, and you've got a recipe for disaster—or pure hilarity. Mysterious "Florida" deaths start piling up, and Pete finds himself knee-deep in a whirlwind of coked-up alligators, Cuban drug runners, classic cars, and a nymphomaniac with a penchant for trouble. From lethal coconuts to a junkyard tragedy involving a Honda Civic, the madness escalates.
In a state where the bizarre is just another day, Pete and his motley crew of quirky companions must navigate a maelstrom that could only occur in the feral heart of Florida.
Will Pete solve the case before retirement catches up with him—or will Florida kill him first?

Ann Kenna is a published memoirist, essayist, and performance poet whose work has appeared in Newsday, South Shore Magazine, and numerous online publications and anthologies. Her essay "King Murphy" was featured in Chicken Soup for the Cat Lover's Soul and spotlighted on CBS affiliate WUSA's Great Day Washington in a segment about rescued pets and the American Humane Association. As a featured poet, Ann has graced stages across Long Island and New York City, captivating audiences with her evocative performances.
After spending her formative years on Long Island, Ann recently traded her beach chair for the sun-soaked shores of Southwest Florida. Immersing herself in the snowbird culture of Marco Island, she caught rare glimpses of old-moneyed senior citizens in their high-end beachfront condos. Venturing further south into the enigmatic Everglades—the end of the road where exotic predators flourish—she found a wellspring of inspiration in Florida's rich tapestry of personal stories and unique, humorous situations.
With a career in elementary special education that sharpened her observational skills, Ann is ever alert for the next awe-inspiring moment or near catastrophe. These qualities, combined with over thirty years of writing experience and the captivating allure of the Everglades, propelled her to create her debut novel, FLORIDA KILLS.
